This past weekend we visited Ricker Hill Orchards, where the rolling hills meet the orchards. It was peak foliage and the view was breathtaking (more details to come in next blog post). With all the apples we brought home, we came up with the idea of having an apple pie contest. With grandma in town, this competition was no joke! Martha Stewart has nothing on Grandma's cooking skills :)
I decided to take the more traditional route with a classic lattice crusted apple pie, and oh was it delicious! This was the first time I have ever made a pie, baking is not my strong suit.I even worked up the courage to make my own crust, it ended up being easier than I thought and was so delicious ( In my opinion I won the contest, shh don't tell grandma) .

Grandma made her famous double layered crusted Apple Pie,with some secret ingredients she has not shared with anyone! It is to die for. I have provided a similar recipe without her secret ingredients, sorry she wouldn't give it up!
April got creative with an Apple Crumb Cake. I had never tried something like this, boy have I been missing out! It was quite a hit in the Perry House, so mouthwateringly sinful! April is a phenomenal cook and baker, we all weren't surprised that she deservingly won this contest. Grandma's legacy will live on thanks to April!
There's nothing better than spending time with family in the kitchen. I will always cherish these moments with my grandmother. Take a day to do the same with one of your loved ones. I promise that you will have some good laughs, you won't regret it! You can also taste for yourselves which one of these pies is your favorite.
