Dining in Portland, Maine
If you haven't been able to tell from my past blogs, I am a huge foodie! My passion for food is genetic, there is not one family gathering that is revolved around a delicious meal. My move to Portland was not a coincidence. I fell in love with the variety of cuisine offered and was shocked to find out that Portland is ranked #2 in the US when it comes to restaurants per capita! I have yet to eat at a bad restaurant in Portland and don't think I will ever be able to eat at every single restaurant here. There are just way too many! I look forward to the weekends mainly because It means that I get to eat out for date night, and there is no holding back when I do eat out!
If you have yet to embark on your dining adventure in Portland, I will give you a head start with some of my favorite restaurants in and around Portland, Maine! Being from CA, I am a supporter of these restaurants that offer authentic New England Seafood but who you don't have to be from the West to enjoy a good meal from the sea.
1) Street & CO
My cousin brought me to Street and Co for my first visit to Maine and all I could think about after is when I was going to return. I love how they incorporate the classic New England seafood with an Italian flare. They serve most of their dishes in the pan and let the quality of the ingredients do most of the work. My sister and I shared the Lobster Diavolo which was enough for 4 people, it was huge! You get a whole lobster, calamari, muscles and clams all topped on linguine buttered and sautéed in garlic. YUMM! The ambience is very romantic and I love the old brick walls. This spot is a must try!
2) Back Bay Grill
My boyfriend and I made reservations here for Maine restaurant week and we were very pleased. We were presented with a magnificent 4 course meal that contained the freshest of vegetables, fish, meat and pasta. The customer service was outstanding here. We had to wait a little while because it was so busy but they made sure to keep us happy with beverages and appetizers on the house. The waiter was an absolute delight and the owner even made sure to come around to make sure we were satisfied. It's hard to find exceptional customer service these days and this restaurant went above and beyond!
3) David's 388
I love this spot! It never disappoints and I have tried pretty much everything on the menu. I love how the portions are not too big and how reasonably priced it is. You leave with the perfect amount of satisfaction of not being overly stuffed. My personal favorite is the Haddock and Lobster but the steak there is also perfectly cooked.
4) The Grill Room
This is my boyfriend's favorite restaurant, period. Im not a big meat eater but he raves about the steaks here. Said it's the best he's ever had which says a lot. I do love their salmon and their lobster mac and cheese is to die for.
