Christmas Party Appetizers

Christmas is here and we had a great time at the Fiber and Water holiday party, hosted by owners Miles and April! April went all out , like always, with delicious appetizers and entrees. We thought we would share some appetizer just in case you are scrambling to come up with some food to bring over the next couple of days, to all those holiday parties and dinners. Merry Christmas Everyone! Cheese Plate Everyone loves a good cheese plate. There is nothing much to this besides the basic cheese, fruit, salami, olives and crackers. What really makes this is the presentation. You can do a lot with cheese plates by putting the items on a nice cutting board and dressing it up...

SOWA Buys

This last weekend April & Miles were at SOWA holiday market selling some Fiber and Water products. The show was a great turn out and like always, there were many talented vendors selling handmade goods.  April took advantage and did some holiday shopping; It's a perfect opportunity to support small business and shop local. Check out some of the buys she made and a couple of our favorite vendors at the market!  Stonehouse Studio   This necklace was made by Betsy Baker, of Stonehouse Studio in Boston. It is made from a mixture of metal and polymer, synthetic low fire clay. I love the details of this necklace and artistically simple it looks. Her work is so beautiful and would be...

Desks, Dreamcatchers and Succulents

I have been on the search for a desk the last couple of weeks. I wanted something simple and not too space consuming but also sturdy. Miles was feeling ambitious and decided to help me out by making me one himself! April picked up some free desk legs, and Miles had some plywood laying around at the shop. He spray painted the legs gold, painted and welded the wood together and WAH LAH! I have myself a wonderfully simple yet elegant desk that goes perfect with my F&W decor. What do you think of Miles's work?  I now am on the hunt for the perfect chair to match. I envision a gold or white chair along with some small potted succulents...

Dining in Portland, Maine

If you haven't been able to tell from my past blogs, I am a huge foodie! My passion for food is genetic, there is not one family gathering that is revolved around a delicious meal. My move to Portland was not a coincidence. I fell in love with the variety of cuisine offered and was shocked to find out that Portland is ranked #2 in the US when it comes to restaurants per capita! I have yet to eat at a bad restaurant in Portland and don't think I will ever be able to eat at every single restaurant here. There are just way too many! I look forward to the weekends mainly because It means that I get to...

Adding some Christmas spirit to the home, on a budget

With Christmas being less than 3 weeks away, we are way behind on decorating. Every year Christmas just seems to sneak up faster than the year before. I have decided to kick it into high gear and get the house decorated by the end of this weekend so that we can have time to enjoy it before heading back to California to spend the holidays.  Here are a few of our favorite ways to decorate for the holidays, without breaking the bank. Wreaths   Christmas wreaths are wonderful on front doors but also look great indoors on windows and bedroom doors. A fresh wreath adds the fresh scent of pine into the home but artificial ones will do the job just...
